The Trades: Sheet Metal

Sheet Metal professionals design, build and install the duct system that is connected to a building's air conditioning/heating units, and create the path for air to follow throughout buildings and structures. These trade professionals must have an understanding of air flow and possess the ability to design, build, and install the duct system with minimal resistance to the flow of air. In this trade, Apprentices will receive intense instruction in safety, math, sheet metal materials, installation, maintenance, and several other areas consistent with the sheet metal trade including HVAC. 

Future career paths for this trade could include Estimator, Inspector, Trade Instructor, Distribution Manager, Project Manager or Foreman.

Degree Information

Length of Apprenticeship: 4 years
On-the-job Training: 8,000 Hours
Hours: Apprentices are required to attend 576 hours of related technical instruction during their apprenticeship. Instruction involves classroom, hands-on and online training totaling 152 hours per session.
