Craft Championships

Each year, ABC of Iowa hosts an annual construction Craft Championships at the Iowa State Fairgrounds’ Varied Industries Building. The event features apprentices from across Iowa competing for state honors in Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing and Sheet Metal*.

Apprentices qualify for the state competition through exemplary scores on a written test. Craft Championship competitors place in the Top 10 of their respective fields’ testing. The first-place winners continue on to the National Craft Championships Competition. First and second place in each category are also awarded tools and other prizes.

* Note, Sheet Metal was not available in 2021.

2021 Apprentice-Competitors

Observers watch apprentices compete in Electrical (Commercial and Residential), HVAC, Plumbing and Sheet Metal trades. Besides prizes and awards, the winners in each trade will go on to compete, representing Iowa, in the National Craft Championships competition (held in San Antonio on March 2022).
