What is Pass-Through Testing?
Pass through testing is available to any registered apprentice who feels they have the knowledge to successfully skip Level 1 (or Level 2, if applicable) AND they meet the qualifications to take a pass through test in our apprenticeship program.
Here's what you need to know:
- Each test costs $150, and can only be taken once
- Trade-specific code books are allowed for use during the test
- Apprentice should bring a calculator and pencil
- Apprentice must get an > 80% to pass-through
We only offer pass-through tests for levels 1 and 2.
Qualifications for the Level 1 Test:
- Registered apprentice with ABC of Iowa member company
- Apprentice must have 1,000 OJT hours
- Must provide proof of OSHA 10-Hour course completion before credit will be granted
Qualifications for the Level 2 Test:
- Registered apprentice with ABC of Iowa member company
- Apprentice must have passed Level 1 class or pass-through test
- Must provide proof of OSHA 10-Hour course completion before credit will be granted

How to Schedule a Pass-Through Exam
1. Enroll your apprentice with ABC of Iowa (If not already enrolled)
- Complete "Enrollment Only" registration in FlashPoint
- (Instructions available on FlashPoint Welcome Page)
- Log-In to FlashPoint
2. Complete Employer Assessment Form and Payment Information
Choose the appropriate trade and level below
3. Send Completed Form to Andrea Sheaffer with requested date(s) to schedule exam
